Hiatal Hernia

Hiatal Hernia: A hiatal hernia is a hole in the muscle that separates the abdomen from the chest (the
diaphragm), located where the swallowing tube (esophagus) passes into the
abdomen to connect to the stomach. Most commonly, the esophagus and stomach
slide up and down through this hole and is therefore considered a sliding hiatal
hernia. It is also possible for the stomach alone or another organ to pass alongside
the esophagus and into the chest. These are referred to as paraesophageal hiatal
hernias.
